Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus

PBR HAWAII prepared the master plan for Kamehameha Schools (KS) Maui Campus, in Pukalani. The campus has now been open and operating for over 20 years. Planning for the school facility took into consideration the existing curriculum and instructional policy and incorporated Hawaiian cultural values into the physical design of the campus to insure that the planning process fulfills the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop and the mission of KS.

As part of the planning process, with input with KS faculty and staff, PBR HAWAII prepared a program which identified space requirements and relationships of land uses to as a guide to the physical development of the campus. The program, which focused primarily on development of a kindergarten to eighth grade facility, also included space requirements for a high school facility to assure that the campus would be able to comfortably accommodate future growth and expansion of the campus.

PBR HAWAII also prepared the landscape design for Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus which includes a courtyard at each of the classroom buildings. A landscape theme for each courtyard focused on the use of native Hawaiian or culturally significant plants. Shapes, patterns and colors of the plants served as the inspiration for the designs of the courtyard’s seating and paving patterns. The plant-inspired patterns and colors are carried into the classrooms providing unique and stimulating learning environments.
