PBR HAWAII prepared environmental documentation for Alternative Structures International (doing business as Kahumana), which is proposing to develop a community training kitchen facility on City and County of Honolulu-owned property located in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu.
The proposed facility is expected to include: 1) a 7,000 to 9,000 square foot kitchen that is anticipated to include a central kitchen for a vocational training and meal preparation program, a smaller instructional kitchen, and a community incubator kitchen for use by low-income or underemployed residents working to develop food-based micro-enterprises; 2) associated parking and loading areas; and 3) a new driveway access on Kuwale Road. The project’s use of County lands and the potential use of federal funds triggers State Environmental Impact Statement law (Chapter 343, HRS) and environmental documentation consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
