PBR HAWAII prepared an agricultural assessment report for Hartung Brothers Hawaii’s (Hartung) agricultural lands in support of a Land Use Commission petition to designate a majority of Hartung’s land as Important Agricultural Land (IAL).
The Hawai‘i Constitution (Article XI, Section 3) requires protection and preservation of agricultural lands and Chapter 205 Part III, Hawai‘i Revised Statues (HRS) sets forth policies, criteria, and incentives regarding IAL.
As part of the agricultural assessment report PBR HAWAII created GIS-based cartographic exhibits to evaluate various land attributes against the established criteria to help Hartung determine which of their lands to designate as IAL.
