PBR HAWAII was involved in the early planning and development stages of this project and assisted Kamehameha Schools and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) in developing a joint vision and master plan for the Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center located on approximately 40 acres in Mā‘ili, O‘ahu. The master plan focused heavily on sustainable and culturally appropriate site design strategies which incorporated 21st Century School Design concepts including flexible, adaptable classroom and learning spaces; promoting both indoor and outdoor learning environments through the creation of outdoor garden plots and ‘āina-based learning; and encouraging interaction with the surrounding DHHL community through an interconnected pedestrian/bike path system. Upon completion of the master planning phase, PBR HAWAII worked collectively with the project Architect in providing landscape architectural services from schematic design to construction documentation. The campus landscape design focused on creating a variety of sustainable and educational outdoor learning environments that are playful and engaging for students.
