Po‘ipū Roundabout

The Po‘ipū Roundabout has become a landmark juncture by which people can use to remember locations by, give directions to, and use in communications with others. PBR HAWAII’s design intent was to develop a landscape setting that helped revitalize and enhance the area by reflecting the surrounding tropical environment and merging the spirit of the neighboring Koloa, Lawa‘i, Po‘ipū and Kukui‘ula communities. Another important aspect was to design the hardscape features, such as the signage wall and paving, to complement the circular form of the roundabout. The signage wall incorporated the woven lauhala pattern motif, free-flowing curves, and natural stone, all adding to the design theme. The roundabout also signifies a rejuvenated gateway to the many Po‘ipū resorts and famous Lawa‘i attractions such as the Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Garden. This Roundabout took pedestrians off the road shoulder and created a safer walking link from the Po‘ipū Resorts to the Kukui‘ula Shopping Center and Koloa Town. With approval from the State agencies and support from the community, this project was a win for all parties involved.
