Ulana Ward Village

PBR HAWAII provided full landscape architectural services for Ulana Ward Village, a mixed-use residential development in Honolulu’s Kakaʻako, in collaboration with Architects Hawaiʻi Limited and the Howard Hughes Corporation. The scope covered landscape and hardscape design for the project’s two public-facing community parks and all associated exterior spaces. The ground-level Ka Laʻi o Kukuluāeʻo Park opens to the street with native plantings, canopy trees, and a turf lawn, layering shaded BBQ pavilions, pergola structures, and curvilinear planting beds along a continuous circulation path. A quieter podium-level park centers on children’s play, with a shaded play structure, synthetic turf field, and lush tropical plantings that screen the surrounding parking structure. Guided by a conceptual master plan of canopy monkeypods, flowering shower trees, and screening palm clusters, the design draws on a culturally resonant and regionally familiar plant palette. The result is a completed outdoor environment that grounds Ulana Ward Village in the landscape tradition of Kakaʻako.
